CPC Receives $2,000 Grant from The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund for Real Men Read

The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund just helped us continue to serve our mission. Thanks to their support, we can continue to provide our Real Men Read Initiative!

The Carteret Partnership for Children’s Real Men Read Initiative is a volunteer-driven program that brings male “MENtors” from the community into early childhood classrooms (childcare facilities and preschools) to read four different books throughout the year. “MENtors” hand out books at the beginning of each visit to eager students who then gather to follow along with the story and excitedly interact with the reader by sharing questions, guessing what will happen next in the story, and engaging in activities to help bring the book to life. At the end of the story, the children take the book home to add to their home libraries and share with their families.  The teacher also gets a copy of the book to add to their classroom library.

The Real Men Read Initiative:

•             Provides positive male role models who value early education

•             Models the importance of early literacy skills

•             Provides each student with high-quality books
