  Smart Start

Smart Start is a public-private early childhood initiative to help all North Carolina children enter school healthy and ready to succeed. Its unique, comprehensive approach allows communities to make decisions and plans that are specific to the needs of young children and families. Smart Start services are targeted for children 0-5 and their families and include making sure child care is of high quality and affordable and accessible to those who need it, as well as providing health services and screenings and resources for family support.

 

Child Care Services Association

The mission of Child Care Services Association is to promote affordable, accessible, high quality child care for all young children and their families.


  Children's Defense Fund

The mission of the Children's Defense Fund is to Leave No Child Behind ® and to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.


  National Safe Kids Campaign

The first and only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury-the number one killer of children ages 14 and under.

NC Division of Child Development

The Division of Child Development oversees all aspects of child care services in North Carolina. They regulate child care facilities and respond to reports of illegal child care operations and allegations of abuse or neglect in child care facilities. They also oversee the state's subsidized child care program, offering financial assistance to help eligible families pay for child care. The Division of Child Development promotes education and training for child care workers, and administers other early childhood initiatives to improve the quality of care for all children in the state. The Head Start Collaboration Office is also housed there, linking various services for young children and their families.
